Most important questions are asked most often! I have added this FAQ page recently and promise now to update it regularly.
How can I start mentoring relations with you?
This is simple; you will find detailed instructions in registration page. But do not forget to study first Mentoring services & fees as well as Terms & Conditions pages. In case of any questions, please ask me.
Can I cancel or postpone our mentoring relations?
Yes you can. Please visit Terms & Conditions page for more information.
How much time will it take me to prepare RAP?
Those students, who devote to RAP less than three-four weeks, have little chances of success. Quality of your RAP could be average after 1-2 months of diligent work. The more time you devote to this project, the higher chances of success you will have.
Can RAP mentoring be fully on-line, without face-to-face meetings?
Yes. As explained in Registered Mentor Scheme: information for BSc (Hons) Applied Accounting students (http://www.oxfordbrookesmentoring.co.uk/R68PSR303931, 2017), ‘You do not have to meet your mentor face to face but may, if more convenient, use some form of Video link (such as Skype).’
Mentor does and doesn’t
What can do and cannot do RAP mentor?
Generally, mentoring relationship is an educational resource to discuss issues confronted by Mentee during preparation of RAP. Mentor’s role is to provide relevant suggestions, advises, feedback and guidance, as well as to confirm to OBU that he has been a Mentor and that the RAP submitted is Mentee’s own work. More explanations about RAP mentoring could be found in section 6 and appendix 2 of the Information Pack
Can mentor make corrections or help in editing, formatting RAP?
No. This is not allowed by OBU and brakes mentoring principles. Mentor can only suggest corrections and explain editing and formatting processes.
Questions about approved RAP topics
Can I correct the topic title?
No, your RAP will be assessed according to approved topic title. You can only add your subject organization to the title (as explained in Information Pack 2017-18, page 41).
Which topics do not suppose gathering initial information?
If you have limited access to primary sources of information, consider the next topics:
3) An assessment of the potential impact of an aspect of impending legislation on the operations and financial position of an organisation.
8) An analysis and evaluation of the business and financial performance of an organisation over a three year period.
12) An investigation into the possible effects of a proposed accounting standard on the financial statements and business activities of an organisation.
15) An analysis and evaluation of the management of an organisation’s working capital over a three year period and its impact on the organisation’s funding strategies.
18) A review of the marketing strategy of an organisation and its effectiveness.
How is RAP assessed by OBU marker?
There are 9 assessment criteria according to which your RAP is evaluated. They are listed in Information Pack in Appendix 1 – RAP assessment criteria.
How many attempts are allowed to pass the RAP?
You are allowed maximum of three attempts to pass RAP.
Are there limits for quotations in RAP?
There are no prescribed limits like percentage of Research Report or maximum number of words quoted. But too many quotations could mean that you relied on other people’s work instead of performing your own researches and analyses. Try to paraphrase quotations, enriching them with your own ideas and conclusions.
What will happen after I pass the RAP?
You will receive a letter with your result, then a certificate within 3 months, and invitation to attend a graduation ceremony in a regional center of Oxford Brookes University.
If I fail, will I be informed why?
OBU markers will write their comment on all assessment criteria, marked as F (failed).
